Light Em Up

I can remember as if yesterday, 2012 the year of the London Olympics, but most importantly for me. The year I knew God had confirmed we could go and start CityHill London.

It was exhilarating.

I remember knowing God had called me since the age of 17 to plant a church. But I never felt He had said I could go. Until then.

In the weeks building up to the moment, the vision and mission started to form. I knew God wanted us to form and shape something new, something different. A space for the missing generations of the church. Where they could explore and grapple with who God is and what His Church can be in this world.

I was wide awake, it was night time and I couldn’t sleep. I had an impression on my mind, it was from Matthew chapter 5.

Matthew 5:14-16

14 lYou are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 mNor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so nthat2 they may see your good works and ogive glory to your Father who is in heaven.

CityHill. I knew the name of the Church He had called us to start.

It was these verses that shaped our Mission…

Lighting up our world so that people far from God can find life in Christ.

There was a desire to help people shine bright, position the light that Jesus had given them on a lampstand and not under a basket. We knew this had to be part of our discipleship journey something we would do as individuals and as a collective.

Now we have 3 words that can express all that…

LIGHT EM UP

If we are going to pursue all that God has for us, we have to be about the mission –  the mission on our mind and our mind on the mission. For me, Light Em Up means two things.

  1. Share faith & invite to CityHill.
  2. Serving God at CityHill.

Sharing faith and giving the invite for someone to be able to come and connect with their Father in Heaven. Wow, that truly is lighting them up. But so is creating space to serve God on a team as part of His Church. That is the place that creates room for next level discipleship.

The next couple weeks there is a lot to talk about at Church. But in everything we do – let’s – light em up…
