Where Do You Sit?

Faith and cynicism. Scoffing was something that was portrayed as being a mature Christian when I was growing up in Church. But it is anything but.

Where do you sit? Is probably not a question we ask very often. In the first Psalm, a picture is painted of someone who ‘walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers’ apparently this person is blessed. That suggests that we have to keep it moving. Moving into what God has for us. That the wicked give counsel that leads us away from where we are supposed to be going. Sin is like stopping moving all together and that leads to scoffing, which is in turn now a posture of relaxation. Meaning one is now comfortable in the wrong way, place or life.

Where are you sitting?

In the place that God has for you?

Or are you scoffing at it all?

If you are scoffing, it is not out of being a mature follower of Jesus. It is because you have settled. Tapped out. Stopped flowing. Lost the buzz, the excitement and wonder of following Jesus and your haemorrhaging toxicity instead.

This Sunday at CityHill the entire conversation is going to be about where you are sitting. This is just one of many questions we will be exploring.

Maybe through pain, hurt, rejection, failure, sin or neglect. You find yourself moving in a direction you never intended.

Maybe you have stopped moving. Sin has got you motionless.

Maybe you’re full of cynicism and scoffing.

We are going to be talking about some ways that lead us to a place of sitting in rest, love, joy and celebration of one another. Appreciating those who are different to ourselves. Leads us away from scoffing at those whom we fail to appreciate. To see the good and wonder that is around us.

CityHill London is a safe place that you and I can come with our misguided wanderings, sin and scoffing. But it is not a place where we stay like that. Come, rediscover faith, hope and love together with us.
